Preview: A Yankee in the Land of the Morning Calm: Gold and Rail

Coming Soon....
My new novel, the second in the A Yankee in Land of the Morning Calm series, will soon be available.

He's an preview....
Despite ill-fated romance and disappointment on his first sojourn to the Land of the Morning Calm--Korea, Connecticut Yankee Josh Gillet longs for high adventure and travel.

Josh returns to late nineteenth century Korea just as American concessionaires and influence make huge new inroads. Asserting his individuality, Josh is shaped by experiences in this ancient land, bold American entrepreneurs who bring progress, and a new relationship.

It is here in Book Two, A Yankee in the Land of the Morning Calm: Gold and Rail, that Josh’s saga continues…

About the Author...
Don Southerton has held a life-long interest in Korea and its rich culture. His previous non-fiction books centered on American entrepreneurialism and early U.S.-Korean business ventures. Southerton also writes and comments on modern Korean business culture and its impact on global ventures.

This is the author’s second novel and is part the A Yankee in the Morning Calm trilogy that blends historical fact with ample amounts of imagination.

  1. Don. I am a blooger who reads your posting everyday. I have something to tell you. The cover of your new book "A Yankee in Land of the Morning Calm" has serious flaw. The dress a woman wears is Japanese traditional costumes, which is called “kimono”. If you work for Korean clients and writing a book about Korea, I think you have to choose Korean things. I hope this is just small mistake, not intentional purpose.

  2. You are correct. She is in a Japanese kimono. Book Two of the series, centers on growing Japanese influence in Korea, especially in the port of Chemulpo ( Incheon). If you check , Book One has a women in a Hanbok...

Book Two addresses concerns by many, including the main character Josh, on Japan's role in Korea. BTW The book has a number of historically accuarate illustrations on late 19th century Korea...
